Helping Our Neighbors - Part 2
In the last post, we discussed making sacrifices and helping out your neighbor. But we didn’t really mention how much you should give them. Luke says, “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. ”” Luke 6:38 NLT There isn’t an exact amount that you have to give every time. It all depends. Luke explains that if you give a certain amount, that amount will we given back to you fully. So in other words, treat others the way you want to be treated. You want someone to help you when you might get hurt in the future? Help someone right now and your chances of getting help from someone will be higher. Proverbs also says a similar thing; “Generosity will be rewarded: give a cup of water, and you will receive a cup of water in return.” Proverbs 11:25 CEVUK So, don’t help and you won’t get help. It’s pretty simple. Proverbs mentions another important thing; “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.” So it’s not only about how much you give, but it’s also about when you have the ability to give, and whether or not you decide to do so. When you come across a man who has nothing on the streets, and you’ve just come from a restaurant with leftovers, you have the choice if you want to help that man and give him the food, or drive by and eat it later(which you probably won’t). When you can do something good, DO IT!! You will be greatly rewarded for this. Especially if you are doing it all for God. God is our main focus through all things that we do. Put God first, and you will not have to worry about anything. May God bless you all.
